In addition to NBSK market pulp production, the Saint-Félicien mill produces significant quantities of renewable electricity via its two existing turbogenerators. A third turbogenerator will be added to the mill’s facilities. This project was allocated $20.9 million in credits from the Pulp and Paper Green Transformation Program offered by the Canadian federal government. Upon completion of this project in December 2012, the Saint-Félicien mill will continue to meet all of its energy requirements through self-generation and allow excess electricity to be sold to Hydro-Québec, Québec’s public power utility, resulting in additional electricity sales revenue. This project will ultimately see the Saint-Félicien mill increase its green energy production capacity from 33 to 42.5 megawatts, or nearly 30%.
